I already know 4 books I'm gonna read for the year. The one I'm reading right now is Ashes of Twilight by Kassy Tayler, and let me just say, it. Is. So. ASDFHKASDL;FKHASDFL
Gosh, I'm weird. (Please don't kill me for it.) Now that that's over with, let's actually talk about the book! The official summary:
Wren MacAvoy works as a coal miner for a domed city that was constructed in the mid-nineteenth century to protect the royal blood line of England when astronomers spotted a comet on a collision course with Earth. Humanity would be saved by the most groundbreaking technology of the time. But after nearly 200 years of life beneath the dome, society has become complacent and the coal is running out. Plus there are those who wonder, is there life outside the dome or is the world still consumed by fire? When one of Wren's friends escapes the confines of the dome, he is burned alive and put on display as a warning to those seeking to disrupt the dome’s way of life. But Alex’s final words are haunting. “The sky is blue.”
What happens next is a whirlwind of adventure, romance, conspiracy and the struggle to stay alive in a world where nothing is as it seems. Wren unwittingly becomes a catalyst for a revolution that destroys the dome and the only way to survive might be to embrace what the entire society has feared their entire existence.
In the 1800s, people made a dome to protect a city from a comet. For 200 years, these people are trapped in this dome and running on coal. And you should probably stop reading this if you want the full experience, but this is what happens on a daily basis. So
SPOILER ALERT!
There are different types of people, based on jobs. Wren is a shiner, one of the lowest, if not the lowest, classes. Her mom died during childbirth, and she doesn't know who her dad is, making her a shiner. She lives with her grandpa. Officials (bluecoats) and royals basically run the place here. They say the world is still burning outside the dome, but they could just be lying for the power. There are two ways to live as a normal citizen of this dome. One, work and live normally and eventually die from all the smoke. Two, escape the dome and discover either a fiery death or a new life.
When Wren's not working, she likes to sneak her way up to the upper levels of the city. One day when she was outside, the sirens went off, meaning someone was trying to escape. Wren then found out the person was one of her best friends, Alex. She sees (and smells) him burnt, but somehow still alive. His last words? "The sky is blue." The officials say he burned but they brought him in. So who's right? And if Alex was right, how could Wren possibly escape and/or prove the officials were lying?
SPOILER OUT.
I just really hope it won't be one of those books with a disappointing ending. It might be a cliffhanger ending, since it's a trilogy (I think). Shadows of Glass is the second one, but I don't want to read the summary at all. I hate spoilers. BOOO SPOILERS.
Okay. Bye.
