Man: It would mean the world to me if you read my novel!
Author: I hate it.
Man: Well, um, you didn't even read it yet.
Author: If it's horrible, I hate it. If it's great, I envy you, and I hate it even more. Authors are competitive.
So true! XD
I recently watched a movie with a conversation along the lines of:

Disclaimer: You see these all the times. I don't own the song Again. Or Bruno Mars. But I guess it'd be fun to own Bruno Mars. :) Again by Jazelyn "Where are you?" she screeched. I sighed into the phone. "I'm sorry, I missed the first train home trying to convince the boss to let me keep my job. Didn't work anyway. I'll be super late, but maybe we can go on another date another time. I'm sorry." "Are you serious?" her voice shrieked. "This is the fourth time you had to postpone! I'm not staying with you if it's gonna be like this all the time. . ." Flustered, I ran my hand through my hair. "Stop be being so needy," I muttered. I heard her gasp on the other line. "Excuse me? 'Needy'? I guess this relationship really was a waste of my time. Goodbye forever!" I tried yelling my apologies into my smartphone, but a loud beep ended the call. I groaned and waited for the train. A loud noise boomed overhead and in a few seconds, it was pouring. It was long until the train came. I climbed on, my feet sloshing in my worn out shoes. The train was packed. Being soaked and all, I understood why nobody wanted to sit next to me. However, a lady saw me and scooched into the end of her seat. I made me way towards her. "Uh, you don't mind. . .?" I asked. "No, no. It seems like you've had a bad day," she said, as I plopped down next to her. "Penny for your thoughts? Except, you know, without the penny?" I gave her the smallest of smiles and replied, "Eh. Lost my job. Broke up with my girlfriend. Got soaked in the rain. If I wanted do all that, I might as well have stayed in bed this morning." She nodded her head. "I suppose so. But you wouldn't have met me, now would you?" I raised my eyebrow and asked, "No offense, but what's so special about you?" She checked her watch and answered, "Well, it's been a minute talking to you, and you're already my friend." I snickered. "Well, friend, it's nice to know you can tell time!" "It's nice to know you actually smile once in a while!" she teased. I beamed at her. Whoever thought a day gone so wrong could turn out so lovely? FIN. Copyright 2012
A Thousand Words by Jazelyn I laid there in the weary hospital room. I was 83. Family and friends surrounded me, wishing for me to get better as soon as possible. I've been in the hospital for days. Everyone knew how bad it was. Suddenly, a tall, adult brunette came in. Her shoes clacked as she quickly walked over to me. "Mommy? I came as quickly as I could. Are you okay?" she asked, laying down her coat on my bed. I gave a small chuckle, despite the pain. Even though I know it's not right, she was always my favorite child. She was caring and quite different from all the other kids from the neighborhood. "I'm okay," I replied. "Is there anything I can get you?" she asked. I thought for a bit and said, "Can you fetch me the family book? It's in the--" "Oh! I know where it is," my daughter said. "I'll go get it now. Please hang in there while I get it. Please." She grabbed her coat and rushed out. It wasn't long until my daughter came back. She scurried back to the bed and handed me a big, dark burgundy book. "Everyone, please, crowd around," I said. Everyone stood and did so. I brushed some of the dust off the book and started, "This is a photo album from long ago. My mother began this story from my birth." I opened the book to the first page. It had a picture of me as a small baby. I kept flipping the pages, telling a story as I went. "When I was 9, I messed up my lines in a play. Oh, and when I was 13, my first boyfriend broke up with me. In this photo, we moved from Utah to New York." I continued and came across a photo set in a white room. "Here, my mother is in the hospital. She showed me this exact book. I remember those times crystal clear. . ." "You know, Rosie," the old lady whispered, "I made this book for a reason." The daughter, a grown woman, stood next to her. Her lips quivering, she asked, "Why, Mom? Why is it full of sad stories instead of happy ones?" The elder looked at her inferior and answered, "See, when you look back at these photos, you'll remember all those nasty, horrible things that happened in the past. But, when you reflect on your life right now, you realize how lucky you are to live. How lucky you are to live your life. Your wonderful life. When you're down, promise me you'll look back at this book and never lose hope." "Come here," I called to my daughter. We went through the whole album, and everyone sat back down. It was bittersweet as I said the same words my mother said to me. "When you're down, promise me you'll look back at this book and never lose hope." I squeezed her hand as she nodded. "Wow, I'm tired," I said quietly. I slowly fluttered my eyes close. When I opened them back up, I saw my mother. "Hello, Rosie. Did you. . . look back to that book?" she asked. I just laughed. Ye Writing Advice: (in the style of sincerely-hope.weebly.com)1. Have a starting outline.
Before whipping out a great story, you need the basics. What will this story be about? Don't expect to have words exploding out of your mind right when you put pen to the paper. Know what main characters you will include and what the basic plot will be. 2. Need help or inspiration? Books from well-known authors may be the key. Notice where authors indent, or where they punctuate things. If you have writer's block, have a little break. 3. Start writing! What will you write your story with? A keyboard or the classic pen and paper? Know that a typed version is needed when publishing stories. However, writing on paper might help you bring out ideas better. When writing, you can listen to soft music, too. Try not to be distracted. 4. Get involved in your writing; have fun. You'll be encouraged to write more when your having a little fun. Reenact a few parts of your story and pretend you're that character. You'll learn more about a character if you're pretending to be him or her. Reward yourself every few chapters with a snack or something. JUST HAVE FRIKKIN' FUN! 5. Balance everything out. Have as much dialogue as there is story. Have as much long, detailed parts as there is straight-to-the-point parts. Too much of a thing is overwhelming. 6. Don't lose any ideas! You'd be surprised how many good ideas come and go. It may seem kinda weird, but if you come across a fantastic idea that will probably be used, take note of it. Write it down or type it in your phone. 7. Editing can be a pain, but is worth your time. Even if you may not be publishing every story you write, editing can help you improve your writing. Edit once you're done writing everything. Try rereading your story out loud. 8. Publishing stuff: Think you're ready for the big time? Do your research, find some publishing companies, know the consequences. Be realistic and know that not everyone will love your story enough to publish it. Don't give up!!! And that's my advice! Yeah, I deleted www.jazelynsbooks.com. I never update it, and I already have a book blog on here, so. . .
Oh, a person named Willow asked for some tips about writing books. And I am HONORED!!! That is why I will blog some tips on writing and publishing stories. Stay tuned for those tips! |
